Table Tennis Sparks Team Spirit Across Years 7–9
During 2200 games our recent Inter Tutor Table Tennis competition brought tutor groups in Years 7, 8 and 9 together for a thrilling display of skill, sportsmanship and sheer determination. With mixed games at every level all students stepped up not only to play, but also to umpire and score matches—showing real compassion, integrity and maturity throughout the event.
Thanks to Mr. Whaley’s fantastic logistical planning, every student enjoyed fairly matched opponents, clear scoring systems and a format where every single point truly counted. Experienced competitors and those less confident played enthusiastically to boost their tutor groups points to challenge for the coveted title of Table Tennis Tutor Champions.
What stood out most wasn’t just the rallies or match point drama, but the genuine fun and inclusive spirit on display. Players showed remarkable tenacity, returning to the table again and again to earn points for their tutor group.
Congratulations to all players and to our winning tutor groups. Gold, silver and bronze positions are below.
This was school PE at its best—promoting teamwork, resilience, confidence and pure enjoyment. A brilliant event from start to finish!
Charlie C strikes gold at Sandwell Showdown 🥇
An outstanding weekend of success for Charlie C, who delivered a sensational performance at the Sandwell Showdown diving competition.
Representing Plymouth Diving — and proudly flying the flag for his home city of Plymouth — Charlie competed across three disciplines: 1m springboard, 3m springboard and platform. In a remarkable display of consistency, skill and composure, he finished 1st on all three boards, claiming three gold medals 🥇🥇🥇.
This superb achievement has also earned Charlie qualification for the National Championships in June, a fantastic milestone and well deserved reward for his hard work and dedication.
A truly exceptional performance — congratulations, Charlie! We wish you the very best at Nationals 👏🏊♂️💫
Yr7 Rugby finish strong at Cunningham Cup 🏉
The Year 7 rugby team brought the Plymouth Schools season to a close at the Cunningham Cup, taking part in a demanding five match festival that showcased just how far the boys have developed this year.
The festival opened against St Boniface’s, where Eggy played some excellent running rugby, using the full width of the pitch and moving the ball well. Despite sustained pressure, the breakthrough wouldn’t come, and St Boniface’s secured the win with a single runaway try.
The boys responded superbly in their second match against Plympton, maintaining strong organisation and discipline throughout. A powerful run and composed finish from Leighton H proved decisive, earning a hard fought 5–0 victory.
Next came a high scoring, expansive encounter with Coombe Dean, featuring nine tries in total. Eggy were impressive going forward, with BL, AL, WS and AC all getting on the scoresheet. Despite a brilliant performance, the match was edged on the final whistle, with Coombe Dean narrowly taking the win 25–20.
A dominant and confident display followed against a less experienced Lipson side. Eggy ran out comfortable 30 point winners, with tries from Oscar A, Jesse F, Alfie C, and a brace from Nico S, reflecting the team’s growing confidence and cohesion.
The final match, deciding Silver or Bronze against DHSB, was closely contested. Both teams showed strong organisation and discipline, and Eggy created chances, but DHSB’s unbeaten run continued with a 10–0 victory.
Overall, it was a fantastic day of rugby, full of effort, improvement and teamwork. The boys were rightly proud of their progress and finished the festival as Bronze medal winners — an excellent achievement to cap off the season. 👏🥉
Yr9 Football show promise in Plymouth League ⚽
The Year 9 football team delivered two competitive performances in the Plymouth League, showing plenty of quality despite results not quite going their way.
Against DHSB, the team dominated possession and played some snappy, passing football, but just couldn’t make their chances count in a narrow 1–0 defeat. Freddie L came agonisingly close with a right footed scorcher that was superbly tipped around the post, while Mason M narrowly missed an equaliser in the final seconds.
A second match against St Boniface followed a similar pattern. Two goals against the run of play saw the opposition take a 2–1 win, but the team kept pushing and were rewarded when Freddie H coolly slotted home a late consolation goal.
There were outstanding performances across both games, with Freddie H and Henry H impressing consistently and earning Player of the Match awards.
Shane shines in Devon Plate Rugby success 🏉
Congratulations to Shane M, who recently won the Devon Plate as part of the Plymouth Albion Oaks U14 squad — a fantastic team achievement.
This season has seen huge development in Shane’s strength, speed and confidence, as he’s grown through regular experience of club rugby. His progress has been clear to see on the pitch, with committed performances and a growing impact within the team.
It’s no surprise that Shane is now in the running for Most Improved Player, a well deserved reflection of his hard work and determination.
Brilliant achievement, Shane — keep it up!
Plymouth pride on the Pitch! ⚽
Well done to Pixie G and Myla R, who continue to proudly represent the Plymouth Schools U13 Girls football team in their fixture against West Cornwall.
Both players have previously put in strong, confident performances, playing their part within a successful and well organised squad. This season marks their inaugural campaign at this level, and Pixie and Myla have risen to the challenge brilliantly — showing teamwork, commitment and skill throughout.
A fantastic continuation of their representative journey. Congratulations to both girls — we look forward to seeing what the future brings!
Ellie kicks her way to the Podium! 🥋
Huge congratulations to Ellie Hodges, who represented herself brilliantly at the Elite Martial Arts Professional (EMAP) Open Taekwondo Tournament in Thornbury.
Ellie delivered a strong performance across both disciplines, just missing out on a bronze medal in patterns after a closely contested round. Showing real determination and resilience, she bounced back in the sparring events — and her hard work paid off! 🥉
Ellie secured a fantastic bronze medal in sparring, demonstrating focus, skill and fighting spirit against tough competition.
An excellent achievement and a great example of perseverance in action. Well done, Ellie — we’re incredibly proud of you! 👏
