Our annual Sports Day saw competitive and social sport mix to demonstrate Eggbuckland’s core TICK values in the best way possible. With 15 activities across Years 7 -10, there was an opportunity for a wide range of students to show their talents and tenacity whilst representing their tutor group.
Year 7 Multi-Skills tested all skills from power and accuracy of throwing to agility of footwork to coordinated space hopping! Followed by compassionately selected whole year relays so that all students felt able to get involved in a race by the end of the day.
Year 8 Netball and Cricket saw brilliantly behaved tournaments with goals and runs aplenty. Integrity was at the forefront with self-managed teams and quick acceptance of umpiring decisions.
Year 9 Volleyball, Rounders and Table Tennis was competitively played across 3 venues. Student tenacity was excellent with players working hard for their TGs but also showing compassion and cooperation by volunteering to offer themselves for umpiring duties and other players stepping in if teams were short of numbers.
Year 10 Handball, Rounders and Football equally impressed their lead teachers, with Year 10 girls combining well and boys channelling enthusiasm showing their rules and tactics knowledge to compete fairly in their competitions.
The afternoon was a ‘whole college’ athletics extravaganza with sprints and relays cheered on by an enthusiastic and loud, but well behaved, spectator crowd following the action from the middle of the track.
The day was summed up for most by one student’s proclamation of “that was brilliant, Sir! Can we do it again tomorrow?”
So, thank you to our PE Dept for their great preparation and organisation and to all staff for their dedicated support whether umpiring, scoring, selecting tutor teams, managing spectators and cheering.
Most of all, to our fantastic students who worked hard, behaved well and played fairly so that all could enjoy a day epitomising great sporting values.
Well done and thank you to all students for making it a lovely day to organise and an extra “congratulations” to our activity winners and overall champion Tutor Groups who will be announced in Strong Starts on Monday.
