Devon Schools Cross-Country Championships

Wishing ‘good luck and swift feet’ to our brilliant West Devon runners: Yr9 - Lilly G and Yr7s - Ben L, Blake W, Dan L and Dan K. The Devon Champs had to be rescheduled after the storms of last weekend so h

opefully our runners can make it this time up to Barnstaple to slip, slide and power through the mud and get the results that they deserve.

Yr 9 and 10 Volleyball – Plymouth Schools Development Training

Our Recreational Sport breaktime players travelled to the YMCA to experience full sized courts and 6-a-side games for the first time. It was fantastic to see their commitment and rapid improvement as they learnt new positions, techniques and strategy during the evening. With 6 players new to school sport, it was a great opportunity to try something new and represent ECC amongst other school players.

The session was run by Unity Through Volleyball and will be a regular monthly event which be a brilliant success and positive link to our local club. Some players are already looking to start club training and possible league matches!

Yr10 Basketball

In their second match we took an enthusiastic and committed, but depleted, squad to Coombe Dean to face their combined Yr10/11 team. With several opposition players over 6’ it was going to be a ‘tall order’ but our nimble and tenacious boys showed quick feet and rapid reactions to steal possession, shut out attacks and then fast break to push ahead. Without the benefit of substitutes, a clever tactical switch to a slower tempo from Coach Piper kept us able to exert pressure and our passing accurate. With George H hitting 4x 3 pointers, Emilio S hustling in defence and Elliot F showing strong rebounding; this left room for Will S and Will L to take on most offense for us. Despite regular switches and time-outs from the Coombe Dean coach, we kept ahead to run out worthy winners 31-22. Most Improved Player - Emilio S. MVP – George H.

Devon Schools Individual Table Tennis Championships

Eggbuckland welcomed approx. 200 players in 4 venues from Yr7-Yr13. We entered 13 players in all categories and the standard of play from all improved throughout the day under the pressure of high-level competition and spectators watching matches. Teamwork and celebration of each other’s success was brilliant, and player’s independence to understand where and when to play and also to umpire matches was outstanding. After initial round robin matches Rafa M (11), Parker LB (😎 won through to Quarter-finals to finish 14 and 15th. Iris C, our talented Yr8 sports all-rounder, continued through to the U13 final and winning Silver to be ranked 2nd in Devon Schools. Great work from all and deserved reward for Iris.

In addition, thank you to our PE and Drama teachers and students for adapting maturely to the reduced facilities and need for outside lessons on a rainy, cold day; and to our great Car Park team for their resilience in the rain to meet and greet visiting schools. Additionally, to Graham and Cheryl Pearson plus our resident Joola Table Tennis Club for leading the event and giving local opportunity for such high level competition.
