Dear Parents and Carers,
We hope you have had a positive start to the year. This weeks safeguarding bulletin is around the topic of aerosols. Please be reminded that aerosols are a prohibited item and not to be brought into school premises. This is in order to safeguard all students.
What do we mean by aerosol products?
Aerosols include, but are not limited to:
• Deodorant or body spray cans
• Hair spray
• Spray paint
• Air fresheners
• Any pressurised spray can
Why are aerosols not allowed?
Aerosol products can pose a safeguarding and health risk. They are pressurised, can be misused, and may trigger allergic reactions, asthma, or breathing difficulties in others. In some cases, they can also be used in unsafe ways and it is important to be mindful of the risks related to solvent abuse.
Our responsibility is to maintain young people’s safety, and prohibiting these items supports a safe environment for all.
What should families do?
• Please ensure students do not bring aerosols into school.
• Where personal care items are needed, we suggest the use of non aerosol alternatives, such as roll on or stick deodorants.
If an aerosol is brought in:
Any aerosol items brought in to school will be confiscated in order to ensure safeguarding, and home will be contacted where appropriate. Parents will be asked to collect any items confiscated.
Thank you
We appreciate your continued support in helping us keep our school community safe
If you have any questions, or concerns around children who may be using aerosols in unsafe ways that pose a risk to personal health, please do not hesitate to get in contact with school.
