And for taking this week’s top spots as Student of the Week, we have:

Year 7: Harry W

Year 7: Ben F

Year 9: Jayden C

Year 10: Marley C

Year 11: Louis W

Sixth Form: Issy M, Maddison B

Year 11 and 13 have had busy first week back as they have completed week 1 of their Mock Exams. I am incredibly proud of the way our students have approached these exams and how they have grasped the opportunity to ‘rehearse’ the exams season, and show us what they know and can do under exam conditions. In the longest Year 11 exam, English Literature, our students worked impressively hard throughout, making the most of every minute to complete, review and improve their work. Week 2 is underway today and we wish our students every success.

This week, we introduced new bells in school to support students to arrive to lessons promptly and on-time. We now have a really clear signal for the start of every lesson, so that learning is not disrupted once it is underway. Thank you to all students and staff who have provided their feedback which has led to a new movement system being introduced in the H block to better support corridor movement. As ever, our students never fail to impress us with their commitment to learning.

You will have already seen the post showcasing the amazing work of our students who teamed up with MKC heroes and Colourful Horizons in the Remembrance Day Poppy Pebble Hunt; what brilliant work from our students. In the summer term, the Art department also teamed up with the River of Hope Project, which was an arts-based learning project linking schools around the world through the study of rivers and environmental issues. The project used environmental learning and creative arts practice to help young people express their concerns about the climate crisis. During the project, our students created wonderful thought-provoking flags which were then paraded and displayed at the Tamar River Valley Festival on the 26th October. At ECC, we believe that all students should be given the knowledge and opportunities to become confident young people, who can understand the complex work around them. This project had been a brilliant way for students to engage in and reflect upon really important local and global environmental issues. How wonderful to see their work on display.

In sport, we have seen excellent local, regional and national successes over the past weeks. The Sports Update will give you the full details, but I must give a special mention to two students who have competed nationally and internationally since my last update. Alfie P earned Bronze at the National Gymnastics, as part of the adult squad, and Louie M was Gold Medalist in the Platform Diving at the Southampton Invitational Diving Competition.

Despite being 14 years old, Louie dived in his new A Category for 16–18-year-olds and saw amazing success. Not only the Gold Medal, but also securing 4th place in the 1m and 3m events as well. Wow!

It was great to welcome Fred Thomas, as our new MP, to ECC for the first time before half term and we look forward to welcoming him back again soon to see the school in action.
