Welcome back to the first Principal's Round up of 2025!

eggbucklandcc

I hope all students, families and friends have had a good start to the year and enjoyed the festive break. It has been lovely to hear stories from students everyday as I see them on the lunch queue.

Students at Eggbuckland have had a flying start back to this term and Attendance has been significantly higher than this time last year. This is brilliant news as school attendance continues to be a drive nationally. Our wonderful Pastoral Leads are here to support students and families.

It's been a busy stay to term with Sporting activities. The Sports Update will give you the full and match reports for U12 Girls Football National Cup, U13 Boys National Cup, Year 7 Netball and Year 11 in the Elite National Schools Cup. Our Year 11 Boys now progress on to the Quarter Final of the Elite National Cup! Congratulations to all of our students for representing the College and living out our TICK values.

Year 11 have embraced the opportunity of making the most of the working environment at College - the first week of Champion's Hour has seen pleasing numbers which are growing on a nightly basis. We encourage all Year 11s (and 13s) the take advantage of a quiet workspace and computers, available exclusively every evening until 5pm. Members of the Leadership are always on hand to support. Mocks are not far away, and we know that regular revision really does pay off.

Year 9 have come back and sprung straight into thinking about their Option choices. Last week students had an assembly on the Options process, possible courses and combinations. Over the next 4 weeks, students will take part in a series of activities during Future Friday Tutor sessions to support them making an informed decision on their GCSE Option choices. Year 9 Options Evening is on Thursday 6th February at 5pm- this will give parents and students more information regarding the Options process. We look forward to seeing you there. More information to come.

Enrichment Week for Year 7-9 has also been an exciting conversation point. Mrs Partridge held assemblies last week and bookings go live at the end of next week. This is set to be an excellent week in July. At the same time, Year 10 and 12 will be embarking on Work Experience and are currently busy organising placements.

Since January we have now introduced Star of the Lesson to recognise one student in every lesson, every hour, who has been particularly brilliant. This can be for a variety of reasons. This award also attracts 20 points on Class Charts and is part of our ongoing revamp of rewards and recognition in school. Students are hopefully coming home proudly with their Star of the Lesson postcards! 1229 have been awarded so far!

The Golden Ticket and Prize Draw scheme also continues this term will more details to come soon when we launch.

Monday was also the first day of the Mental Health Support Team being in College to offer drop-in support at break time. This is alongside the great work that the team already do in our school and across many schools. The drop-in will continue each month and the team are based in the Main Hall.

As the term continues we get closer to the College Musical, Matilda, we can't wait! Rehearsals are in full flow. We also look forward to the Student Council deliver assemblies next week and to sharing this on the Round-Up soon.

Well done to the first Students of the Week of 2025. You are superstars. From Year 7 to Year 13: Parker Leslie B, Imogen Ruby H, Reggie J, Ellie H, Katie E, Freya W and Elena P.

And to our winning Sparx Tutor Groups who enjoyed some Heroes in Tutor time. 7SJW, 8GOC, 9MHW and 10CVN. We cannot emphasise enough the importance of completing Sparx each week and proven difference that this makes to progress and outcomes in Maths.
