Weekly round up from the Principal

Another busy week at Eggbuckland, full of so many lovely conversations with the students – thank you to all students who have come to say hello during break and lunchtimes this week.

This week, we held two parent/carer events in the Sixth Form; a brilliant Information Evening for Year 12 parents and carers, and a Student Finance Support evening for our prospective university-bound Year 13s. Thank you to all families who came to join us! Our Sixth Form certainly is a vibrant community.

We held our first Student Council meeting of the year this week too – headed up by our Head Students from Year 13, Ellie, and Kieran. As always, the representatives from each Year Group joined us to talk through their ideas about future improvements at the College and bring questions from their Year Groups. We will soon be looking to recruit some new Year 7s and 9s to the Student Council team so if you are interested, watch this space!

Our Year 7 transition programme continued this week after the brilliant Beach Trip on Friday with a series of Team Building activities delivered by the Royal Navy. These sessions were fun, practical tasks which further develop our students team building and communication skills. Thank you to Mrs Grimes for organising this. The Royal Navy commented on the outstanding teamwork and resilience shown by our Year 7 students. They praised the communication skills of the student’s and their fantastic creativity as they worked together to build their own inventions.

Thursday evening was also our Open Evening. Thank you to all prospective students and their families who came to join us to see what Eggbuckland has to offer. A huge congratulations to our fantastic student speakers: Ellie, Chloe, Harry, Grace, John and Jessica. They spoke with such confidence and did a superb job. It was also a testament to the community we have here at the College that so many of our students joined us for the evening as Student Leaders – we could not do it without you! We will be holding a number of Open Mornings over the coming weeks – see the flyer below for more information.

Now to celebrate our first Students of the Week: Congratulations to you all for your nominations: Lola G, Harry W, Poppy H, Tilly S, Jack D, Will G, Lucy P and Vanessa T. Well done!
