Weekly round up from the Principal
Wow, what a fantastic first full week back at the College. I am so proud to be the Principal of Eggbuckland Community College and work with such fantastic students and staff.
Every day, I see our students living out our College TICK values: Tenacity, Integrity, Compassion and Knowledge. I have been particularly impressed by the compassion that our community show in abundance each and every day; at our College, difference is celebrated, and character is shaped.
I have enjoyed meeting our students on the gate each morning and seeing them off again at the end of the day. As the new Principal, it has been wonderful to have such positive conversations on the gate and hear about the things students have been doing and learning each day – they are always happy to share their news and also take the time to ask if I have had a good day.
Our Year 7s have made a smashing start to the year, with a brilliant roll call yesterday, the students were immaculate. Parents and carers, you should be very proud. Ms Child’s has also taken the time to share the brilliant creative writing which her Year 7 class achieved this week; well done 7En1, you are destined for greatness! Year 7 had their first trip today with a Beach Walk; thank you for being great ambassadors for our College.
It is always lovely to receive parental feedback and I thank our parents for engaging positively with the College. This year, we have strengthened our partnership with our other Trust Sixth Forms, thank you to the Sixth Form team, and in particular this week, the Art team, for going above and beyond to support the students not only in our care, but across our partner schools; this has not gone unnoticed.
We have also had great news this week with sporting success for two young footballers: Joe and Billy who have been signed for Plymouth Argyle – what an achievement for Joe and Billy who have certainly shown tenacity again and again to reach this level. Well done!

Year 11 have come back fired up for a great year and achieving the best possible results they can – we know that with hard work every day, there is no limit to a student’s potential. Our additional ‘Period 6’ lessons for Year 11 started this week and students have embraced these with excellent attendance and commitment. A great start for Year 11. Their hard work and dedication to their studies and building their knowledge will pay off.
At Eggbuckland, ‘Everyone Can’.
Finally, I want to end by sharing with you some pictures of our wonderful new toilets as I know there have been some questions from parents. These facilities have been needed for a long a time and I am pleased that we were able to make this project happen over the summer to really improve and upgrade the toilet provision for our students here at the College.
