Weekly round-up from the Principal!

Another busy week at the College celebrating both National Careers Week and World Book Day!

And what better way to celebrate World Book Day than to present Maddy R in Year 7 with a trophy for winning the WEST Gothic Writing Competition.  Competing against Year 7 students from across our family of secondary schools in WEST (that’s over 1000 students!), Maddy was the well-deserved winner.  Her writing is fabulous, and we couldn’t be more proud of her!

Careers is always high on the agenda at Eggbuckland and during National Careers week you will not be surprised to hear about the great opportunities Mrs Harris and the team organised: A Year 10 Design Technology trip as part of Building Plymouth Open Sites week, NHS presentation for Year 11 and 12 students and an ex-student, Sam H came to share his apprenticeship story so far and today, a visit from the National Citizen Service, NCS for Year 11.  Check out the careers’ posts for more details.

Year 11 have also been having their post-16 destinations interviews this week - these now continue for the next two weeks, so Year 11s, please keep a check of your emails for your specific date, time and location.

Next week is Science Week where we will be celebrating the work of Physicist Enrico Fermi during lessons and also inviting students to get involved in extra-curricular sessions including Rat dissections (always a popular one!) and learning to solder a circuit board to construct a mini-torch.  More information to come to students via their Science teachers!

Thank you to all families who attended our Year 9 Parents’ Evening last night – it was great to welcome so many of you into the College and hear the buzz of conversations and joy with teachers, students and parents!  Next week is the turn of Year 8.

We also had the pleasure of congratulating 39 students from across Years 9 – 11 for their tremendous performance in the UKMT Intermediate Mathematics Challenge.  This is a national competition aimed at the most able mathematics and its wonderful that so many of our students were successful in achieving Bronze and Silver awards.  Well done!

Can I also congratulate our many sporting stars mentioned in the recent sporting updates.  Our Year 7 Girls football team, Louie M (Diving) and Chloe R (Indoor Rowing) all deserve an extra special mention.  Well done!

Now to celebrate our Students of this Week this week.

Of course, in Year 7 we have Maddy R, along with Olivia J, Josh J and Ryan B.  Congratulations!
