Pupil premium strategy statement - Eggbuckland Community College (WeST)

Pupil Premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged students and close the gap between them and their peers.

Eggbuckland Community College aims to ensure there is an explicit focus in increasing access to all areas of education for all students whatever their starting point. Pupil Premium is therefore a key resource for ensuring the realisation of this goal.

There are three principles that underpin our package of support for Pupil Premium students at Eggbuckland Community College:

1. High Quality Teaching and Learning

Evidence indicates that high quality teaching is the most important lever schools have to improve student attainment, including for disadvantaged pupils. At Eggbuckland Community College we focus on building teacher knowledge and pedagogical expertise, curriculum development, and the purposeful use of assessment.

2. Targeted Academic Support

Students may require targeted academic support to assist language development, literacy, or numeracy. Interventions are carefully linked to classroom teaching and matched to specific needs, whilst not inhibiting pupils’ access to the curriculum. Examples of this would include our Reading Intervention programme.

We strategically deploy TAs to ensure priority students are supported. This will include ensuring TAs are fully prepared for their role and supplementing rather than replacing high-quality provision from the class teacher, including providing targeted interventions.

Intensive individual support, either one to one or as a small group, is utilised at Eggbuckland Community College. This is in addition to and explicitly linked with normal lessons. Careful thought is put into the implementation of tuition, including assessment of learning gaps, careful selection of curriculum content, ensuring those delivering tuition are well-prepared, and monitoring impact.

3. Wider Strategies

Attendance is a whole school focus. We regularly review and action how we can ensure all students are in school learning and have access to a well sequenced and enacted curriculum. This is especially important for our most disadvantaged students.

Social and emotional skills support effective learning and are linked to positive outcomes later in life. Targeted social and emotional support is regularly utilised at Eggbuckland Community College.

Period 6 for Year 11 students is an example of a wider strategy that we believe increases the likelihood of improving outcomes for our students. Period 6 is clearly structured, linked to the curriculum and led by well-qualified and well-trained staff

Each year we publish details of how Pupil Premium has been allocated and data showing the progress of students.

We encourage communication from parents and guardians of students eligible for Pupil Premium Plus and Service Pupil Premium, so that we can work together to tailor appropriate support for every child.
