On Friday 3rd May, the Year 11s played in the Plymouth Cup Final against Plympton Academy. After a tough draw the boys were confident they could win the trophy. A surprisingly nervous first half from us meant that after taking the lead we allowed Plympton Academy to equalise. Just before the break we managed to score again. In the second half a more confident performance was seen and we managed to create more chances. Some good saves from their goalkeeper allowed them to stay in the game but we eventually broken through and 2-1 became 5-1. The goals came from Alfie who got his hat-trick and Kian who got the other two; one being a lovely soft redirected touch past the goalkeeper from a free kick. Well done to all 16 boys who have played for the team this season. The effort and hard work has really shown a level of maturity in their play.

Eggbuckland travelled to Ivybridge to play the Semi Final of the Devon Cup. This was going to be a real test for us as a team but the boys set the tone early with everyone pressing, battling and winning the ball back when we didn’t have possession. This put pressure on Ivybridge and we were able to pounce on an error to take the deserved lead. At half time we were winning 1-0, playing well and creating chances. In the second half we knew Ivybridge were going to have to come at us. A change in tactics allowed us focus on the quick counter attack and we were unlucky not to go two goals ahead. We weren’t able to hold out and the game went to extra time. A tense extra period followed and it was Ivybridge that pounced and intercepted a pass and scored to take the lead. We knew we were going to create another opportunity and we did right at the end. However the sweetly struck shot beat the goalkeeper but it also beat the post and went inches wide. The pleasing thing was seeing the self-belief increase as the game went on from our boys. A County semi-final is certainly something we can build on in the next few years.
