As part of the ongoing support being offered to Year 11 students on Post 16 opportunities, this week’s Future Friday assembly was from Sharron Robbie, Managing Director, Devon & Cornwall Training Provider Network. Sharron delivered a presentation on the apprenticeship pathway available both locally and nationally. Students heard about the wealth of opportunities that are available, as well as the level of competition there is for these apprenticeships. Students need to recognise the importance of having the right employability skills as well as good GCSE qualifications to be successful in their applications.
There is always student interest in apprenticeship opportunities, however we must emphasise the need for a backup plan when considering their Post 16 destinations, should they not be successful in their applications during Year 11. We encourage students to see the value of Level 3 qualifications as this will allow them to apply for higher and degree apprenticeships as well as university courses after completing their Sixth Form or Further Education studies.
