Weekly round-up from the Principal

It seems a long time since I’ve posted a ‘Weekly round-up’ after half term, and then the shortened and disrupted week last week as we returned. I trust that everyone had a good break - the students have certainly returned full of energy and enthusiasm for the term ahead.

Last Wednesday was a big day at the College where we hosted the National Schools Table Tennis Championships. It was a delight to visit the event in action; we are extremely fortunate to have such top-class facilities, and for us to host teams from 11 local schools for the day. Thank you to all of the staff who helped to support the event and to Joola Plymouth Table Tennis Club for delivering the competition.

Careers opportunities continue for our young people at the College, with external speakers in yesterday to talk a group of Year 11 students and a variety of events happening next week for Green Careers Week. Last Friday, our entire Year 12 cohort went to Marjons for their Higher Education Discovery Day - the students found out about the wealth of opportunities open to them at University. University ambassadors and lecturers were able to give the students an experience of higher education so that students are able to consider this option for their future pathways. Please continue to encourage your child to get involved in as many opportunities as possible alongside our Future Friday’s careers curriculum. I wish all of our Sixth Form students who are currently applying for University the best of luck with their applications.

Today at the College, students demonstrated all of the behaviours and values that we would expect throughout our Remembrance Service. This was a poignant and powerful event and I am extremely proud of all of our students for the respect and compassion they have shown and in particular, to our students who played a key role in the event.

Next week sees the start of the mock exam series for Year 11 and 13. This is an important part of the curriculum for these year groups, helping students to gain experience and confidence under exam conditions, just like it will be in the summer exams, and to gain a better understanding of where they currently are and how they can improve. Good Luck Year 11 and 13 from me and on behalf of the entire College community; this is the time to show real tenacity and show off the knowledge you have! Well done too, to our Drama students in Year 11, who completed a practical exam this week.

Finally, to our Students of the Week:

From last half term, we still need to celebrate students in Year 10 and the Sixth Form: Ciaran L, Angel R and Libby F.

And for this week:

Year 7: Caiden P

Year 8: To be announced next week

Year 9: Faith C

Year 10: To be announced next week

Year 11: Benjamin B

Sixth Form: Katie F

Well done!
