Weekly round-up from the Principal!

I cannot believe we are on the last day before half term already! Its been a short and jam packed half term for everyone!

First and foremost, I’d like to congratulate the students on how well they have adapted to the new Mobile Phone restrictions in College.  It has been wonderful to see how students are interacting with each other during break times and to see so many getting involved in our new enrichment activities, be it board games in the Main Hall or joining a new sports club!

We were also excited to launch our Enrichment Week programme for Years 7 – 9 earlier this week – thank you for all of the positive responses we have had from families about the vast array of activities we have on offer.  The week would not be possible without the dedication of our brilliant staff who have all worked hard to organise a great variety of trips and activities.  Please do not forget to get your choices in by 9am on Monday, 12 February.

Well done to our Year 11 Hospitality and Catering students and our Drama cohort, who have been completing examinations this week.  And on the note of examinations, I wish all of our Year 11, 12 and 13 students the best of luck in their forthcoming examinations which commence immediately after half term.

A group of students from across all year groups were lucky enough to go to the Theatre this week to see the incredible Aladdin; for many this was their first experience of the Theatre and from what I’ve heard, it certainly won’t be their last!  A fantastic time was had by all!  Our Sixth Form Creative Arts students travelled up to Exeter to visit the RAMM museum and the Cathedral looking for inspiration for their new projects.  Students on both trips have been praised for their excellent attitudes and behaviour; you have represented the College superbly. Year 11 Artists have also ended their half term with a trip to the Arts University Plymouth today!

14 Year 9 students completed the Articulacy project this week.  This project is funded by Next Steps South West and provides an opportunity for students to develop their communication and presentation skills and achieve an English Speaking Board qualification - a great addition to their future CV.  I had the pleasure of watching some of our students carry out their final presentations this morning and can say that they did a fabulous job! Yesterday was also a big day for Year 9 with the formal launch of the Year 9 Options process.  It was brilliant to see so many families venturing out in the rain to attend the event and start the process of deciding upon their subject choices for GCSEs.  Straight after half term, On Tuesday 20th February students will have another Careers event in College to support this process.

Now to my final students of the week from this term:

From last week Sophie J and Bethan G in the Sixth Form and Chloe P in Year 11 and from this week: Isla M in Year 8, Mollie H in Year 7, Joshua C in Year 11 and Harris S in Year 10.

Well done to you all – what a great way to end the half term.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of our parents and carers for their on-going support.  I wish everyone a restful half term and I look forward to seeing all students back in College on Tuesday, 20 February.
