Weekly round-up from the Principal!

Firstly, can I start by welcoming everyone back to 2024!  Happy New Year!

After 8 days back in College, it is certainly true to say that we have hit the ground running!  Its been an excellent start to the term and I am proud of all of our students for the way they have adapted to our new Electronic Device Policy in the College.

Well done to you all!

Its also been great to see the launch of our new enrichment programme with lots of events happening at break and lunchtimes for our students to get involved in.  In particular, the boardgames in the Main Hall, Boardwalk and the Drama Studio have been a real success and its been great to see students socialising together in this way!  Mr Calderwood introduced a new reward scheme at the College: The Big Green Tick table, where students bring along some work or an achievement they are really proud of.  Students not only receive the recognition they deserve for this, but are also entered into a prize draw!

It was our first subject Parents’ Evening of the academic year this week, where we welcomed Year 11 parents, and their children into the College to meet with their teachers.  It was great to see so many parents find time in their busy schedules to attend this important event and hear so many positive conversations being had throughout the evening.  After a request from students for additional after-school study space provision, we are pleased to invite Year 11 to join Champions Hour from 3:50pm – 5pm Monday to Thursday and 3:05pm – 4:15pm on a Friday in the Library if they would prefer to revise in College.

Parents’ Evenings continue to take place throughout the terms, with dates as follows.

Year 7: Thursday 25th April 2024

Year 8: Thursday 14th March 2024

Year 9: Thursday 7th March 2024

Year 10: Thursday 16th May 2024

Sixth Form: Thursday 25th January 2024

More information will be sent to parents and carers for each Year Group in due course.

For Year 13s, as well as deep into their Sixth Form studies, they are all having mock interviews from professionals over the coming weeks.  Good luck to you all!  This is an invaluable opportunity to experience and practice the interview process.  I must extend my thanks to the Careers team and all of our external partners who help to make this happen for your young people.

Last term, we celebrated 133 Students of the Week!  I am pleased to announce our first Students of the Week 2024:

Year 8: Matilde TB

Year 9: Alex B

Year 10: Aiden G

Sixth Form: Mykhailo C

Year 7 and 11 will be announced at the start of next week.
