Sporting updates

Cricket

Our cricket school season got under way with the Year 9/10s last Thursday. Initial defeat against a big hitting Stoke was improved with a narrow loss to Coombe Dean and a convincing win versus St Boniface’s.

The Year 7/8s have just started to play cricket and both teams play fortnightly each Thursday evening throughout the summer.

Football

Congratulations to Liam Gilbert, Harry Westlake and Freddie Chapman (U15) and Jake Clarke (U14) for their Plymouth Schools successes. The U15 team remain unbeaten and most recently defeated Taunton, Mid-Somerset and Millfields at the Mid-Somerset Festival. Roxy Thomas is also part of the Plymouth Schools’ squad and has now pushed on with Plymouth Argyle and Devon FA.

At national level, Taya Pomfret is making strides with England Schools U15 and Mia Endacott continues to shine for England U16. A match against Northern Ireland saw Taya supplying Mia with a scoring pass in their 4-0 win.

Rounders

Our girls’ Rounders season has started well with resounding Year 8 wins against Notre Dame and Torbridge and just a controversial loss by ½ rounder to Coombe Dean stopping a full house of wins. Year 10 beat Notre Dame 21½ – 4½ to start what looks to be a successful campaign.

Rugby

Huge congratulations to Freddie Williams, Year 11. Following selection for Devon U16, he debuted versus Cornwall and has a promising future with both Exeter College and Plymouth College vying for him next year by offering scholarships. He also has matches for Wales Exiles on the horizon.
