Sport Updates
Good luck, Mia!
All fingers and toes are crossed for Mia E. After working hard and playing well over recent months at training camps, she is waiting to hear selection news to see if she has made the step up to England U17 to play in Hungary.
Year 7 vs the weather!
Year 7 Rugby braved the oncoming storm and battled through the rain and mud, combining players to bolster the Coombe Dean team led to a 20-5 win. Against DHSB they scored a quick try then both teams played a wide passing game but no more tries in darkening conditions. Great rugby!

Table Tennis
The County round of the National Schools Team Table Tennis Championships took place at Eggbuckland Community College on Wednesday 1st November with eleven schools bringing 24 teams to make use of the College’s top-class facilities for the event.
This was the 34th consecutive year that the competition has been run at the College and, as usual, a huge thank you has to go to all the staff and students who gave up their teaching and learning spaces to accommodate the event.
Further thanks to the volunteers from Joola Plymouth Table Tennis Club who gave up their time to support the delivery of the competition and to Antony Piper and the Premises Staff who ensured that the site and facilities were ready for the influx of visitors for the day.
The County round is always one that attracts players with a wide variety of skill levels. Many of the teams are made up of young people who either enjoy the sport in after school hours sessions or who are playing Table Tennis in GCSE lessons. At the same time, players who have enjoyed this initial level of exposure and then decided to develop their skills by attending Club coaching sessions, are also involved in the event. As a result, some of the ‘social’ players came away from their matches being able to say that they had come up against England ranked players for the first time.
After four and half hours of play, the Devon County rounds were completed and, as a result, we now have six teams ready to compete in the next stage of the competition which will take place, once again, at Eggbuckland Community College on Sunday 4th February 2024.
