Devon Rugby
Good luck to Ethan Hilland on his Devon U18 Assessment Day during half term. Ethan played at U16 level but missed U17 due to COVID during the trials. ‘May the ball bounce your way’ this year Ethan.
Rugby Round Up
Years 10 and 11 took on Hele’s and Coombe Dean this week with 16 players of varying ranges of experience. In our match against Hele’s, we held most of the possession and played a more controlled game but missed several scoring chances. Breakaway tries from Hele’s thwarted our pressure on their line and at the end we had to accept a 12:12 draw. Against Coombe Dean we again dominated the game and came away with a one-sided, but enthusiastically opposed, win.
Year 9 took on Stoke Damerel and Plympton Academy with a full squad of players and supportive parents. Plympton and Stoke combined their best players for our first match as both were short of numbers. It produced an evenly fought match with several long runs as well as close quarter contact.
Unfortunately we couldn’t quite edge out the ‘combination team’ against us and lost 15-10.
Playing a single Stoke team was always going to be easier for us and we played a much better tactical game and, despite some crunching oppositon tackles, we pushed to a 20 – 5 win.
Well done to all players and thanks to our parents who support us so well (and regularly provide transport so we can travel with extra players).
