Futures Friday

Nigel Hall, Criminal Barrister with KPG Chambers visited the College this week to deliver an assembly presentation to Year 8 students on becoming a lawyer. The tutor programme at Eggbuckland now includes a Futures Friday session where we welcome employers from different industries to motivate and inspire our students, where possible the speakers complement the topics being delivered through the tutor programme as well as providing context for the students to understand the world of work.

Nigel also presented to our Year 13 Sociology class many of whom are considering careers in law. The very nature of this qualification means students have a keen interest in how society works and enjoy debating ideas, knowledge and skills that are key to working in the law sector.

Gail Gotham-Dunn, Senior HR Business Partner with Babcock and also the College Careers & Enterprise Advisor presented a virtual assembly to our Y11 students this week. As Year 11 students prepare for Mock Interviews with local employers, Gail provided information on the importance of a good CV and how it can assist students with applying for opportunities beyond college.

All Year 11 students will be having a mock interview with an employer in November, this is an excellent opportunity to receive feedback from employers on their CV, interview technique as well as information, advice and guidance about employment opportunities. The experience can be very motivational for students as they work towards their GCSE qualifications, providing an opportunity to know what is required for them to enter the world of work, further and higher education.
