Last week our girls under 15 squad travelled for an overnight fixture to Maidstone to face off against Rochester Grammar School in the quarter final of the National Cup.
After a Premier Inn all you can eat breakfast and a sing along in the minibus to the school, the girls were raring to go!
A surprisingly dry start to the game, but very wet underfoot, saw the girls slipping around the pitch. Some good play allowed the girls to feed the ball forward, allowing our strikers to get on the end and run at the goal. The post once again denying a number of our chances, meant the girls began to get a little frustrated. However, they were rewarded with a corner, delivered by Roxy and converted with a brilliant header by Taya. 1-0 up. Play continued with Rochester increasing the pressure on our girls and eventually, after relentless defending from our back four and midfield, the Rochester girls stole a goal back.
The second half was fiercely fought for with the Rochester girls stealing every metre they could across the pitch. Our girls kept their heads up and with Claudia and Brooke controlling the middle and playing through balls in to the right places of the pitch, we kept making chances. The Rochester girls had reverted to long balls towards the goal but Aaliyah kept her head and picked each ball off. The work rate of Eggbuckland was relentless and were eventually rewarded with a second goal slotted away by Mia’s left foot. The last 5 minutes seemed to last at least 10 minutes but with our wingers and super subs; Ellen, Megan, Amelia, Sadie and Keesha we held on to our lead and finished with a 2-1 win!
This absolutely amazing result sees our girls in to the semi-finals. The game will take place at Ivybridge against The FitzWimarc School (East Essex) on Wednesday 16th, kick off at 10.30am.
