Aspirations Day 2019

Following on from National Careers Week last week, Eggbuckland Community College held an Aspirations Day on Wednesday. Students from all year groups were involved in different Work Related Learning opportunities aimed at raising aspirations and providing an opportunity to develop and learn key employability skills.

Years 7 and 8 listened to an inspirational talk from Karen Friendship, Managing Director of Alderman Tooling, they then participated in a carousel of STEM related activities with employers, plus the Science, Music and PE Departments.

All Year 9 students visited a Higher Education institution. Groups went to Plymouth Marjons, Plymouth College of Art and City College, Falmouth University and the University of West of England at Bristol. Students toured the campus facilities and took part in a range of activities.

Year 10 students visited the Plymouth Pavilions for the South West Skills Show, here they were able to meet with a range of training providers, employers, Further & Higher Education institutions.

Year 11 students had an intensive day of English and Maths revision as well as a teambuilding workshop with the Army.

Year 12 students took part in the annual You’re Hired Competition. This is an “Apprentice” style business challenge, where students compete against each other with the winning teams then going through to the city wide event to pitch their skills against students from other local schools.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the employers, colleges and universities who freely gave their time to support this event. If there any employers or parents who own a business who would like to support the College with work related learning opportunities in the future, please make contact with Lynn Harris, Careers Coordinator, who will happily provide more information.
