Design a factsheet on the part of Psychology that you are most interested in. It could be a booklet aimed at getting year 8 interested, or a leaflet that you might pick up at the doctors to help you understand something.

What I will be learning about - Your brain
What I will need to know or be able to do by the end of the week
Revise all the structures of the brain. Find diagrams and explanations for what each part does. Describe the location of the four lobes, plus a few other key parts of the brain. Find out how brain scanning works.

Week Beginning - 22nd June
What I will be learning about - Psychology of criminals
What I will need to know or be able to do by the end of the week
Research, using the prompt questions, about crime and some of the ideas in psychology behind criminal behaviour. You should start to form your own opinions about which crimes could be seen as mental illness.

What I will need to know or be able to do by the end of the week
Choose two of the mental health problems from the list (on the template document) and be able to describe symptoms, treatment, how common it is, what problems it can cause.

Define mental illness, explain the stigma associated with mental illness compared to physical illness. Be able to state a few key features of schizophrenia.

What I will need to know or be able to do by the end of the week
Define mental health, describe what people with good mental health are able to do compared to those with poor mental health. Explain the difference between sadness and depression.

What I will be learning about - Perception research from the specification by Gilchrist & Nesburg and Bruner & Minturn.
What I will need to know or be able to do by the end of the week
Describe the method used by Gilchrist & Nesburg. Explain what their results mean and how they can be applied to real life situation.
Describe the method used by Bruner & Minturn. Explain their results and comment on the ecological validity.

What I will be learning about - Perception – visual illusions
What I will need to know or be able to do by the end of the week
Describe the Müller-Lyre, Ponzo, Necker cube and Kanizsa triangle illusions. Find examples of each and an explanation of why our eyes are tricked. Find explanations from TV/film where visual illusions have been used.

What I will be learning about - Memory researchers: Loftus, Miller, Ebbinghaus and Craik & Lockhart
What I will need to know or be able to do by the end of the week
Briefly explain what impact these researchers had on our understanding of memory. For Loftus and Craik & Lockhart, describe they key study briefly.

What I will be learning about - Memory research from the specification by Murdock and Bartlett.
What I will need to know or be able to do by the end of the week
Describe the method of the study on memory stores and what the primacy and recency effect are.
Describe the method of the study on reconstructive memory.

What I will be learning about - Early psychologists; Freud, Pavlov and Skinner.
What I will need to know or be able to do by the end of the week
Explain who each of these psychologists were and what their contributions were to psychology and the understanding of human behaviour.

What I will be learning about - Classic studies of Milgram and Rosenhan.
What I will need to know or be able to do by the end of the week
Describe the method that was used in both classic studies and explain why these studies are important to psychology in general.
