The tasks for the next 4 weeks are designed to consolidate your knowledge and understanding of the GCSE unit on Medieval England between 1337 and 1381. Each week there will be a separate quiz on one of the topics that we have covered.

Education: Little Rock High and James Meredith

What I will need to know or be able to do by the end of the week

Describe the events at Little Rock High School in 1957.

Explain why the James Meredith case was important for the civil rights movement.

National Organisation for Women and The Women’s Liberation Movement

What I will need to know or be able to do by the end of the week

Who was Betty Friedan and NOW? Who were the Women’s Liberation Movement? What were the achievements and limitations of the women’s movement from the 1960s to the 1990s?

Explain why the Second World War was important in the fight for black Americans civil rights.

Changes in youth culture and youth counterculture

Describe how youth culture changed and explain why many teenagers rebelled against society in the 1950s.
