How to approach, annotate and use an extract from Romeo and Juliet

Spend the week looking closely at some of the key quotations from the play and tracking the themes.

 

Your aim this week is to analyse as many of the quotations as you can in one of the modelled ways.

Catch up

  • You need more time to complete the Romeo and Juliet lessons from this half term.

You have not yet completed the weekly tasks to send to your teacher.

  • You have not yet completed the 4 Educake tests.

Keep Up

  • You have completed the 4 weeks of Romeo and Juliet lessons but there are elements you want to revisit.

  • You have completed the weekly tasks but want to have another go at one or more of them.

  • You have completed the Educake tests but didn’t do as well as you would like so want to have another go.

Level Up

  • You have completed the 4 weeks of Romeo and Juliet lessons and weekly tasks and Educake tests.

  • You want to deepen your understanding of Romeo and Juliet.

You want to improve your analysis skills.

  • What happens in the key scenes of the play – act 4 and act 5

What I will need to know or be able to do by the end of the week

Lesson 13 = act 4 scene 1, the Friar’s plot to fake Juliet’s death

Lesson 14 = act 4 scene 4, Juliet is found ‘dead’ by her family

Lesson 15 = act 5 scene 3, Romeo believes Juliet is dead and kills himself.

Lesson 16 = act 5 scene 3, the conclusion

Lesson 10 = act 2 scene 5, Romeo and Juliet marry in secret

Lesson 11 = act 3 scene 1, Mercutio is killed, Tybalt’s death

Lesson 12 = act 3 scene 4 & 5, Juliet refuses to marry Paris

  • What happens in the key scenes of act 1 of the play (scenes 1, 2 and 5)

Lesson 6 = act 1 scene 1, the conflict is established and Romeo talks about Rosaline

Lesson 7 = act 1 scene 2, Lord Capulet and Paris discuss marriage

Lesson 8 = act 1 scene 5, the party at the Capulet’s and the lovers meet
